Daylesford and neighbouring Hepburn Springs sit about ninety minutes northwest of Melbourne in what is marketed as spa country, and the name is literal: the area holds the greatest concentration of natural mineral springs in Australia. Nineteenth-century visitors came to take the waters, and the bathhouses still operate.
