What the day looks like
The Grampians — Gariwerd to the Traditional Owners — rise abruptly from the western plains about three hours from Melbourne. They are sandstone ranges tilted into long escarpments, and the region holds one of the most significant concentrations of Aboriginal rock art in southeastern Australia.
A day tour is built around lookouts and short walks from Halls Gap, the small town in the valley between the ranges. It is a long drive for a single day, so expect an early start.

Good to know
Large parts of the park burned in the 2024–25 fires and recovery works are ongoing, so individual walks and precincts open and close at short notice — the MacKenzie Falls precinct, for example, has been closed for works during 2026. Itineraries are set against whatever is open on the day, and your operator will confirm the final route.
