What the day looks like
The Mornington Peninsula is the hook of land separating Port Phillip from Bass Strait, roughly an hour south of Melbourne. It has two very different coasts: sheltered bay beaches with bathing boxes and calm water on one side, and exposed back beaches with surf and rock platforms on the other.
A day here is a loop between the two, with lookouts, a lighthouse and a village stop. It is the gentlest of the coastal day tours — short driving legs and no long climbs.

- Cape Schanck, where a boardwalk descends toward the basalt point below the lighthouse
- Sorrento and Portsea, on the sheltered bay side
- Arthurs Seat, for the view back across Port Phillip

Good to know
The back beaches have strong rips and are mostly unpatrolled — swimming is for the bay side or the hot springs. If bathing is part of your day, bring a towel and swimwear, as hire is charged separately.
